The General Student Committee, in German Allgemeine Studierendenausschuss, (AStA) is the managing (executive) and external representative body of the (constituted) student body in the universities of most German federal states. It represents the student "government" or also the actual student representation in the narrower sense. The AStA is usually elected by the StuPa and consists of one or more chairpersons as well as a number of speakers for different areas of responsibility.
